Death by Heartbreak

A day, then a week and now a year has passed,
Her smile and her voice felt like ghosts of his past,
He wakes up daily with an ache in his soul,
He knows she wont be there to make him whole.

He dons a facade and works day in and day out,
While inside, he is breaking and all he wants to do is shout,
His instinct screams to just wait a little longer, for she would definitely come,
Alas, his heart has grown numb.

See the clouds of despair hang low,
There is no light at the end of the tunnel, not even a glow,
As the man who loved her slowly ceases to exist,
He feels he could have won her, had he been strong enough to persist.

Feeding his desire and starving his will,
The pain becoming a scythe sharpened to kill,
To love someone was his only mistake,
Such is the tale of the man who died of a heartbreak.
